Arriving at University of Bristol

Arriving in a new city can be an exciting but daunting time. This handy guide will help you find your way around when you arrive.

Before you arrive at the University, you may find it useful to have a look at the University’s new students page to read general information for all new students.

You will also find some useful before you arrive information from the International Office.

 

Term Dates:

Check the important University term dates for your diary on our website. 

Meet and Greet Service

University staff will be available on 18, 19 and 20 September 2015 at London Heathrow Airport, Bristol International Airport, Bristol Bus and Coach Station and Bristol Temple Meads train station to help you with the rest of your journey.

If you arrive outside of the meet and greet times on 18,19 or 20 September, you will need to make your own way to your accommodation.

Fill in the arrival form so we know when to expect you in September.

Accommodation:

The arrival and moving-in period for residences is usually from the second or third weekend in September. You should have already received your moving in date from the Accommodation Office.

You’ll need to book an arrival slot at Deans Court and Woodland Court. If you don’t book an arrival slot, we can’t guarantee you’ll be able to move in on the day that you arrive.

It is not possible to move in before the agreed date so if you need to arrive earlier, please make your own temporary accommodation arrangements.

If you need buy anything for your accommodation there are a range of local shops in Clifton close to the main University campus.

Wilko’s can be found on Queens Road and stocks basic household items from bed linen, kitchenware and small kitchen appliances like kettles and toasters. They often have special offers for students in September.

Sainsbury’s supermarkets for food shopping can be found on Queens Road and at Clifton Down Shopping Centre on Whiteladies Road.  There is also a Waitrose supermarket on Queens Road and Morrisons on Whiteladies Road.

For your stationery needs you will find a Paperchase and Rymans on Queens Road and WHSmith in Clifton Down Shopping Centre.

The local Post Office can be found on Cotham Hill.

In the main shopping centre in central Bristol (known as Broadmead and Cabot Circus) you will find large department stores which stock useful household items and furniture. Stores include Debenhams, BHS and Marks & Spencers. Argos also sell similar items, often at low budget prices.

Local entertainment and places to eat:

Whiteladies Road, Queens Road, Park Street and Clifton Village are all within short walking distance of the main University campus and have a large selection of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
